Function marks research collaboration

A new approach to science was celebrated in Wellington this week when Science and Innovation Minister Steven Joyce addressed a group of about 50 people involved in the Sustainable Seas National Science Challenge.

A stakeholder panel meeting ended with an early evening function at which Mr Joyce expressed his support for the challenge and the progress it had made so far, as it works towards enhancing the use of New Zealand’s marine resources while caring for our marine environment.

The function coincided with the launch of the challenge website and officially marked the beginning of the research programmes.

Mr Joyce emphasised the importance of properly managing marine resources into the future and said Sustainable Seas was a clear example of integrating knowledge by using the best teams and collaborating across institutes to achieve the best possible outcomes.
