Navigating towards marine co-management with Indigenous communities on-board the Waka-Taurua

Highlights

• We propose a Waka-Taurua as a metaphorical framework for facilitating the development of collaborative initiatives.
• Systems which recognise Indigenous worldviews, tools and approaches equitably with EBM can be developed using this framework.
• Multiple new and existing concepts, such as Two-eyed seeing and the Negotiated space, are applicable in the framework.
• The New Zealand Marine Management System (NZ-MMS) demonstrates an applied example.
