These events are part of the United Nations’ Ocean Decade, which is promoting the science being done to conserve and protect the world’s oceans.
6–7:30pm, March 10 Te Au o Te Moana – Voice of the Ocean
An expert panel will explore how Aotearoa New Zealand research is placing the moana/ocean at its heart and working in partnership with and supporting government, Māori, industry and communities to reimagine our relationships, responsibilities and connections to the moana.
2–4pm, 11 March Virtual Lab: Ecosystem-based management in Aotearoa New Zealand
This student-led discussion will discuss how we are challenging the current way of thinking about ocean management, and how we are working towards creating ecosystem-based management (EBM) in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The event will open with high-level presentations and interviews with leading practitioners from Sustainable Seas, and finish in an open panel session.
